Sustainability across the institution
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration connects its mandate in management, public administration, governance, law, business and technology education with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Our priority goals are Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
Our approach
Teaching, learning and capacity development. Academic, professional and executive education develops the knowledge and competencies that individuals and institutions need.
Research, knowledge and policy impact. Research and scholarly engagement connect evidence and ideas with policy, governance and development challenges.
Institutional practice and responsible governance. Policies and organisational practices support accountability, inclusion, ethical conduct and continuous improvement.
Partnerships and engagement. Collaboration with government, industry, academic institutions, development partners and civil society extends the Institute’s contribution.
A welcome from the Deputy Rector
Welcome to the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), an institution dedicated to advancing knowledge, developing transformative leaders and contributing to sustainable development in Ghana, Africa and the wider world.
At GIMPA, we believe that education must do more than impart knowledge. It must empower individuals and institutions to address the complex economic, social, environmental and governance challenges of our time. As a leading institution in management, public administration, law, technology and related disciplines, we recognise our responsibility to use our expertise to contribute meaningfully to national transformation and global development.
Our commitment to sustainable development is embedded in our organisational culture, what we teach, what we research, and how we partner with others.
Through our teaching and learning, we seek to deliberately develop graduates, executives and public-sector leaders who possess the knowledge, critical thinking, ethical values, entrepreneurial, and innovative capabilities required to create lasting value for communities and beyond. We are committed and intentional about integrating sustainability, responsible leadership, innovation, social responsibility and global citizenship into the educational experience of our students and training participants. Our student clubs already exemplify these values through volunteerism, community engagement and outreach programmes.
Additionally, through research and knowledge creation, GIMPA seeks to generate evidence and innovative solutions to pressing development challenges. Here at GIMPA, we encourage research that is relevant to Ghana and Africa while contributing to international scholarship, public policy and professional practice. Our ambition is to ensure that knowledge generated at GIMPA moves beyond academic publications to influence policy, strengthen institutions and improve lives.
We understand that sustainable development also requires institutions to practise what they advocate. We are therefore committed to strengthening responsible and sustainable institutional practices, including effective governance, responsible resource utilisation, environmental stewardship, inclusiveness, innovation and the continuous improvement of our campus and institutional operations.
We equally recognise that no institution can achieve sustainable development alone. Partnerships are at the heart of our strategy. GIMPA therefore continues to engage the government, private sector, development organisations, civil society, academic institutions and international partners to exchange knowledge, mobilise expertise, foster innovation and develop solutions to shared challenges.
Our commitment is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We view the SDGs not simply as a global framework but as a call to action. Through our academic programmes, research, executive education, policy engagement, community initiatives, institutional practices and partnerships, we seek to contribute to the achievement of the Goals and to demonstrate how higher education institutions can serve as catalysts for sustainable development.
As we look to the future, GIMPA aspires to strengthen its position as a leading African institution for knowledge production, leadership, management, public administration, and innovation for sustainable development. We will continue to challenge conventional thinking, embrace emerging technologies, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and develop the human and institutional capabilities required to build a more prosperous, inclusive, resilient and sustainable society.
I therefore invite our students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners and friends of GIMPA to join us in this shared mission. Together, we can transform knowledge into action, leadership into impact, and partnerships into lasting development.
Welcome to GIMPA – where beauty is second nature, second only to heaven and knowledge, leadership and innovation drive sustainable development.
