GIMPA plants tree as one of eight institutions marking UN@80

GIMPA was one of eight institutions in Accra chosen for the UN in Ghana’s '8 Trees for 8 Decades’ symbolic tree planting marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. Deputy Rector Prof. Ebenezer Adaku represented the Institute; seedlings of fruit and indigenous species were supplied by the Forestry Commission and custodianship of the trees was assigned to host institutions.

On 21 October 2025 GIMPA took part in the UN in Ghana’s “8 Trees for 8 Decades” symbolic tree planting, which marked the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. Eight trees were planted at eight sites in Accra, each linked to an area of the UN’s work in the country.

GIMPA’s tree stands for education, research and innovation. The other sites included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Peace Council, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defence, Parliament House and the National Development Planning Commission.

Deputy Rector Prof. Ebenezer Adaku represented GIMPA. The Forestry Commission supplied seedlings of fruit and indigenous species, and each participating institution was given custodianship of its tree, a way of sharing responsibility for protecting the environment.
