Investing in the people who teach and run GIMPA

The Staff Development Policy guides the Institute’s support for academic and administrative staff to improve their skills, qualifications and career prospects. Since 2019 more than 200 staff have benefited from sponsorship and development initiatives, from postgraduate programmes and professional certifications to workshops, conferences and short courses.

GIMPA sponsors eligible staff for master’s and doctoral programmes in Ghana and abroad. Sponsored staff return to the Institute after their studies under a bond that keeps the new expertise within GIMPA’s teaching, research and administration.

Conference support is open to both academic and administrative staff. Recent engagements include the Taskforce on Informality, Sustainable Livelihoods and Universal Health in Africa; Inclusive Innovation: Women Entrepreneurs, Digital Technology and Climate Action in Ghana; and Green Transitions and Inclusive Industrialization in Africa.

The GIMPA Hub for Teaching and Learning runs teaching excellence, student-centred learning and educational technology programmes. Faculty across all Schools have been trained on the Learning Management System, and faculty and administrators have attended AI for Education workshops.

The Staff Learning and Internship Programme (SLIP) places staff with partner organisations in their field so that they can benchmark practice and bring practical skills back to GIMPA. Staff also have access to GIMPA Training and Consulting’s programmes, including 360 Degree Leadership, Women in Management and the Senior Management Development Programme.

Partnerships extend this work: the Ivey Business School case teaching workshop for faculty; the Public Sector Management Training Programme, funded by the African Capacity Building Foundation, which has trained more than 400 participants since 2010 and took 28 participants from four West African countries in 2026; and the Economic Governance School with the Kenya School of Government.
